Bicycle Built for Two

On my way to work, I pulled to the stop sign in the neighborhood as a dad and his young daughter coasted by on a shiny, white, tandem bike. When they crossed the road, the dad looked back to make sure his daughter was okay. At that moment, I realized it was a picture of Jesus in our lives.

He loves and watches over us like this cautious dad did for his daughter. Our Father directs our paths. If our feet can't reach the pedals or we miss being in tune with His way, He gently urges us forward and redirects by His love and grace. We're connected. His Holy Spirit lives in us, as the frame ties the whole bicycle together. To protect us on the road we travel, the Bible is our roadmap and source of invaluable knowledge.

I shared this on the way to work with my wonderful friend Joy, who lifted my spirits as much as this bicycle rider analogy. I hope it puts a smile on your face as well.

Proverbs 3:5–6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight."

What are some ways you find your moments with Jesus in your day?

  1. Hi Stacy, Prov. 3:5 and 6 was the very first scripture I memorized and I use it almost every day. I love your analogy of Jesus and the bicycle. My first thought before I read your post was how much riding a bicycle is like dancing, and how when they were popular, a man and women would need to work together for the ride to succeed. There is a bit of a connection there with your analogy. Nice post. Thanks

  2. Hi Barbara, Thank you for reading and the sweet words! Seeing this did throw me back to an earlier time in our history. It gets my mind to wonder . . . a tandem bicycle in a tucked away storage shed for the characters to find. What happens next lies solely with the writer. Happy writing : )
