Author Chat! The Trouble With Love: Faith & Fortune 1 Author Toni Shiloh

Congratulations on the release of your newest novel, The Trouble With Love: Faith & Fortune 1. Could you share what this book is about?  What are several of the characters faith qualities you see in yourself?

Thank you so much! I’m so excited about this book which is all about Holiday Brown and the trouble she has with love. You see her father is a famous R&B singer and he’s been married 10 times, so to her, love is as mythical as a unicorn. And God, well He ranks up there with a unicorn. But over time, she begins to wonder if her ideas on love and faith are wrong. I think her desire to seek answers is a little bit like me. 😊

 

Thank you, Toni, for serving  in the United States Air Force, do any of the military settings you’ve experienced wind up in any of your books?

Sometimes! I put a little bit of military life in Finding Love, book two in my Maple Run series. And I may mention the military here or there in some of my other books. And maybe in the future, I’ll write a military series. 😊

What drew you to writing romance?

I’ve been a hopeless romantic probably since the first time I read Pride & Prejudice. I think I was about 11 or 12. Ever since then, I’ve read romance books, whether in ya, contemporary, etc. As long as a book has romance, I’ll read it so it was natural that I would write with that in mind. Marriage is the beautiful reflection of Christ’s relationship with the church and romance is a great way to show that.

Do you have any special things you do while writing, soundtracks you listen to or snacks you enjoy?

I’m all about the soundtracks! I make a playlist for every book I write so that I have songs playing in the background and fueling me forward. Occasionally I’ll snack but not too much because my hands are busy flying over the keys.

As a multi-published author of many wonderful novels,  what one thing would you advise newer writers to do when they start out?

Find your community of writers. Learn from them, read their books, pick their minds if they don’t mind, and soak in all the information. I’ve been blessed by the writers I’ve come to know along my writing journey.

 

As readers of your books, we’d all be interested to find out who are some of the authors you’re reading now?

I’m always reading so by the time this blog is out in the world, I’ll probably be onto something new. 😊 But as of typing this, I’m reading TI Lowe, Susan May Warren, Catherine Finger, and Karen Witemeyer.

 

What are some of the things you like to do in your downtime?

Read. 😊 Not that that would surprise anyone. I also spend time with my boys either watching movies or playing video games on our Xbox One. I’m also a huge fan of watching HGTV.

 

I happen to know you adore ice cream, which is your favorite flavor? Do any of your characters share your love as well?

I don’t have favorite flavors when it comes to food. I can’t stick to one because they all deserve to be eaten. 😊 I did recently make some homemade strawberry ice cream after the awesome Jaycee Weaver gifted me with a machine. I’m also fond of these organic orange cream pops. My characters definitely share my love of food and sweets and I enjoy giving them favorites. 😊

 

What future books are you working on?

I’m working on Christmas novellas that will be released later this year. I’m enjoying the stories and hope the readers will fall in love with Christmas. 😊
