A Season for Grace Countdown Week Post #2

The Trouble with Tibbles

by Beth Collins

My sister Stacy was an animal lover, as evidenced by the many four-legged (and sometimes winged) characters in her Briar Creek Love books. She introduces a colorful new character in A Season for Grace – Mr. Tibbles, Logan Whitlock’s temperamental cat. Mr. Tibbles was inspired by Stacy’s two cats, Ziggy Stardust and Riven. His black-and-white appearance is based on the former (seen here lounging in bed), while his unique personality more closely resembles that of the latter.

When the Lord called Stacy home, she left behind a partially complete manuscript for A Season for Grace. I was stunned but also had to laugh when I saw the last words she’d written, because they were such a testament to her love for all God’s creatures. Without giving too much away, the final word Stacy wrote was “cat.”

And, since her passing, my household has expanded by – you guessed it – one very persnickety cat, Riven (pictured below). She and Stacy’s daughter Jordan moved in with my husband and me last January and brought new life into our empty nest. My phone is filled with cat photos, our pantry is stocked with every variety of feline food and treat, and our living room is anchored by a six-foot-tall cat tree.

Of course, I think Riven is the smartest cat in the world. She can even say helIo! If you don’t believe me, keep checking Stacy’s social media pages because I’ll post a video soon. I know Stacy is amused by her avowed pet-free sister’s transformation into certified “Cat granny.”
