A Season for Grace Countdown Week Post #3

Hats Off to Dad, Part 1

by Beth Collins

    Dad's crazy Christmas hat

Stacy’s readers may remember an embellished Christmas hat that appeared in A Journey for Hope. When Hope’s little sister Grace came to Briar Creek for a visit, they ran into realtor Logan Whitlock while shopping at Minnie’s Treasured Things. Logan bought the mistletoe-topped accessory and gave it to Grace as a joke.

Stacy’s inspiration for this scene was the crazy Christmas hat our father wore every year. He had a quirky sense of humor and loved shaking his head to ring the bells and jingle the ornaments dangling from its crown. Although Dad passed away in 1992, we continue to bring out his Christmas hat (and his New Year’s horn, but that’s another story) every year in his honor.

I still have our father’s hat and will pass it down to my children so future generations can celebrate his memory every Christmas. And, if you’re wondering whether the Christmas hat (and its mistletoe) will make another appearance in Briar Creek, you’ll just have to read A Season for Grace
